Massage Cupping

Updated: Nov 11, 2020

Cupping is the use of suction on the skin. In massage cupping, oils are used and the cups are kept gliding- they typically do not stay anywhere long enough to create a mark. The strength of the suction is able to be customized to your needs and body, ranging from light and gentle to very deep and therapeutic, so each session is specifically tailored to your wants and needs! In contrast to traditional massage, where tissue is compressed to increase blood flow, cupping creates space and relieves pressure from deep inside the body- effectively increasing circulation with far less discomfort!

The appearance of marks depends largely on the individual. Metabolism, hydration levels, activity level, stress levels, all play a role. Fear not, the hickeys the cups may leave behind are not painful. They are simply a pooling of the waste that was pulled from the deeper layers of the body. Marks can range from rosy red to deep purple- the darker the mark, the older the stagnation. These wastes are now broken down and eliminated by the lymphatic system. Lymph in the body is considered any extra-cellular waste that is being processed before returning to the bloodstream. Unlike the cardiovascular system which is pumped by the heart, the lymphatic system does not have a pump. The lymph sits just under the surface of the skin and depends on voluntary muscle contractions to squeeze the wastes through, that is part of the reason it is so important to get up and get moving! Cupping marks can last anywhere from a few hours to 1-2 weeks, depending upon the amount of stagnation and your body's metabolism.
It is important to heavily increase water intake before and after a cupping session. This is to assist your body in cleansing itself and to accelerate healing. Topical creams may be used to diminish marks, along with Kinesiology taping. Cupping is a deep and powerful modality, you will be shocked at the amazing effects!

Our new MediCupping™ machine provides consistent and controlled suction, offering various modes such as pumping to further stimulate the lymphatic system. Cupping can be used as a deep tissue modality, for cellulite treatments, and even on the face. The suction not only stimulates tissue deep within the body, but the skin itself- stimulating collagen production, lifting, and tonifying, reducing lines, wrinkles, under-eye bags, and helping you achieve a youthful glow.
